So I have a studio where I can only record in the wee hours on the morning. With that, an acoustic set was out. So I sold my drums and bought a Korg Padkontrol and Addictive Drums. After some tweaking, I am getting some excellent drum recordings. The velocity sensors of the KORG mixed with the quality sound recordings of Addictive Drums makes for a good combo. You get a great recorded set. However, the live "feel" or performance is lacking due to the fact that I need to play the bass/snare part first, then hi-hit/ride/cymbal in a seperate track...then its a lot of midi tweaking and quantizing after that......but I suppose if AD was midi'd out from an edrum set, you'd have the best of both worlds. If you have the time, room, and money to record live drums, then that's the way to go. But if not, this is the next best thing.

I've been working with this for a few weeks, using the Korg PadKontrol to "play" the various sets. The options of adjusting and mixing each virtual mic is a great feature. Imagine a real drummer in your studio without hassling with mics, isolation and tuning, etc. I doubt the most experienced ears in the business could tell the difference between this plug-in and real drums. I haven't tried the other offerings so I can't compare it, but I'm very happy. Well thought-out solid product. I also purchased the Retro package. Midi drums have come a long way!

I have owned addictive drums for about two months now and I simply love it. I learn new features every day that I am really excited about. The drum samples are beautiful-sounding and the beats are easy to make. With the built-in beats and a little programming on my own (with the mouse!) I was able to create amazing beats that I could never dream of actually playing. The EQ and effects are also really helpful to get the sound you want.

Easily the best drum software I've used. In addition to having a very high quality sound library and comprehensive collection of MIDI loops, it is very intuitive to use - I was up and running within ten minutes. The grooves can be used straight from the library or you can modify them in your DAW's MIDI grid to turn a groove that is "almost in the pocket" into something that will really fit well in your mix. Even their tech support is on top of things, which is more than I can say for a lot of other companies. There was an issue with registering my copy of AD, so I emailed them. Turns out the error was my mistake, but they had gotten back to me within a couple of hours - on a Sunday no less. They pretty much hit it out of the park with this one, nice work XLN.

I'll keep this simple. After years of recording my own drum samples and buying packs; trying out literally everything on the market - AD allows me to quickly lay down realistic, sit nice in the mix, fool your audience drum tracks. That means I get to spend more time in the groove of my arrangements. Add the GrooveMonkey midi packs, a little easy editing; and you've got anything you want for your tunes nailed. Period!
