The EMX5016CF delivers the convenience of an integrated powered mixer with input capacity, flexible features, and solid sound that critical live applications demand. It is remarkably compact and portable for a live sound system with this much capability. And thanks to leading Yamaha digital technology, the EMX5016CF also includes a number of innovations that make it easier than ever to achieve top-class sound in just about any venue. An impressive power output of 500 watts per channel means it can handle fairly large audiences, indoors or out.

Versatile 16-input configuration adapts to varied source requirements
The EMX5016CF has a total of 16 input channels—eight for monaural microphone or line input plus four stereo pairs. The stereo channel pairs can function either as monaural microphone inputs or stereo line inputs. This system gives you extra microphone inputs if your sources are mostly microphones, or if you need to handle more stereo sources, the EMX5016CF will comfortably handle four pairs in addition to eight mono mic or line inputs.

Advanced channel EQ
3-band EQ is available on all input channels, but extra versatility is provided on the eight mono channels with mid-frequency sweep controls. The mid EQ center frequency can be continuously swept from 250 Hz through 5 kHz so you can precisely pinpoint frequencies in the critical midrange.

Ample I/O for expansion and integration
All you need to create a powerful, high-performance live sound system is the EMX5016CF, a pair of speakers or two, and your sources. But it does feature a range of inputs and outputs that allow it to be expanded with external gear or integrated into larger systems. Insert patch points on the mono input channels, for example, let you add outboard signal processing to individual input channels. And although you have all the monitor power and effects you're likely to need built in, external aux and effect sends allow you to route the mixer's signals to external signal processing and/or monitor systems as required. Stereo out, stereo sub-out, and record outputs are also provided.

One-knob compression on the first 8 channels
The EMX5016CF features compressors on all monaural microphone/line channels that can help to make vocals ride the mix better, give you that smooth compressed guitar sound, deliver more punchy bass, and generally refine your mixes in a multitude of ways. These unique one-knob compressors are surprisingly simple to use. There are no multiple attack, threshold, makeup gain, and other controls—just set the COMP control to the amount of compression you need.

9-band digital graphic EQ with presets & memory
This advanced digital 9-band stereo graphic equalizer goes way beyond conventional analog types with a refined control interface, instant-recall presets, and user memory locations. It also works with the console's innovative Frequency Response Correction system (see below) for unprecedented response-shaping control. Of course you can manually adjust each band as required from scratch, but you can also use one of the presets—vocal, dance, or speech—as a starting point and edit from there. You also have three user memories into which you can store your own EQ curves for instant recall whenever needed.

FRC (Frequency Response Correction) System
Setting a live sound system's output equalizer to optimally match room response is normally a complicated process requiring noise generators, calibrated microphones, real-time analyzers, and a great deal of time and experience. The EMX5016CF handles the entire process automatically, using either pink noise or a recorded music source you supply. To precisely match the system's response to the room you're in all you need to do is set up a microphone in an appropriate location, connect it to channel 1, and press the measure/correct button once to make the measurement, and then again to automatically set the graphic equalizer for optimized response. The EQ setting can then be stored in one of the user memories for later recall if needed.

Automatic Feedback Suppression
Although the graphic equalizer can be used for feedback control, the EMX5016CF provides a Feedback Suppressor system that is dedicated to the job. The Feedback Suppressor works by detecting feedback frequencies on the stereo bus and applying precise notch filters to eliminate the feedback. The Feedback Suppressor has an automatic mode that automatically keeps track of and attenuates feedback frequencies for you, and a sensitive manual mode that lets you pinpoint and attenuate feedback points one by one.

Multi-band "Maximizer"
The EMX5016CF "Maximizer" is an advanced 3-band compressor that can be applied to the stereo bus for a more punchy "up-front" overall sound. Simply press the maximize switch to instantly give the mix more presence and impact without sacrificing musical subtlety.

Dual Yamaha SPX effect processors
The EMX5016CF includes not one but two top-performance Yamaha SPX digital effect processors built in! You might only need ambience effects such as reverb and delay for live sound applications—and the EMX5016CF includes some of the finest reverb and delay effects available—but if you need other effects as well they're right at your fingertips, and you can use two different effects simultaneously. Each effect processor offers a selection of 16 top-quality effects including reverb, echo, chorus, flanger, phaser, and even distortion, with editable parameters that allow you to customize each effect.

Dual aux sends
Aux 1 and aux 2 send controls with pre/post fader switching adjust the level of the channel signal sent to the auxiliary buses for monitoring or external effects send. The availability of two aux sends provides considerable flexibility for effect and monitor routing. You could, for example, use the channel effect controls to control send level to the internal SPX effect processor while using aux 2 to feed an external effects unit, and aux 1 to feed a stage monitor system.

This is a great mixer

I have played about 80 gigs with this mixer. It is easy to set up. You don't need outboard processors (although I use a feedback destroyer to the monitor feed). You don't need to lug around heavy amps. The compression effect is easy to set for voices, bass and bass drum. The feedback eliminator really works for the mains. The sound is sweet. There is plenty of power. I run a sub out to a small Mackie subs and the mains through some nice 12" JBLs and that's all I need to play small to moderate size venues. Yesterday, I set up an outside gig (about 300 people). I ran 4 speakers and 2 powered subs with the 500 Watt setting and there was plenty of power. If you need anything bigger, hire a sound company.

Yamaha EMX1650CF Mixer

I purchased this amp 2 years ago, after MUCH research, for use with my church's youth group contemporary music band. Its also been used over that time quite a bit by my son's Rock band. I drive a pair of JBL JRX115 for the mains and JRX112 for monitors. These seem to be a good fit with this mixer. I do agree with most of the reviews here, especially the absence of EQ for the monitors, but for an "all in one", powered mixer, this is about as good as it gets. You'll be hard pressed to find better powered mixer or put together a better component system for $1,100. For church applications and small venues there is more than enough power, and the 75/200/500 watt modes comes in handy for these venues. My son's group recently played an outdoor gig using the Yamaha to power the mains and an external amp for the monitors. It would have been nice to have more system for that show, but it worked out just fine. I was more concerned about the speakers being pushed too far before I was worried about the mixer's amps. Overall I've been very pleased. It's not perfect, but it is a very nice system for small to modest size venues.

I've owned it, for 2yrs. it offers alot of features. 1 control comp, good. sonic max, good. dual effx, only fair. some effex rather cheeze. i won't go on about all the good things. The emx5016cf lacks power at 8 or 4 omhs. if you push it the eq is lacking. not to metion the obvious lack of separate monitor eq. I thought as many of you have; i won't have much eq problems with monitors. i'll keep stage volume down etc. it hasn't worked out very well trying to do so with 4 members beating out loud stage volume. so... i'm having a tech friend of mine modify the unit. by adding 2 return jacks in the right place of the signal path. bypassing the internal eq. when patching from aux 1 and 2 sends in to external eq's inputs then out to added return jacks. allowing me to use amp A for mains and amp B for monitors with separate external eq for both mains and monitors. when patch cords are removed, the unit will be just as it was before. 1 eq for all speakers at left/right main outputs. of course, i'll have to use aux 1 and 2 on each channel strip and masters aux 1 and 2 faders. and use aux 1 and 2 aux position of switch. will it work ? i think so. with a good tech. 2 small holes to be drilled in frame to accept the new return jacks,1/4 mono or RCA and a rerouting of signal path. an external eq and patch cords is a bit of a bother. gain, would be more avalable power. paraleling 8 ohm speaker LOAD down to 4 ohms for mains and monitors with separate eq for both. i think if we wait long enough Yamaha will build a monitor eq for the EMX5016cf. i don't think i wait.

Great Yamaha Quality Mixer

It packs a lot of features in one unit, and is typical Yamaha high quality. The main complaint seems to be the lack of dual EQ's, like configurations on the Yamaha box style EMX mixers. I have an EMX312 that I use for small set-ups, but that is the only time I run mains and monitors together, so the EQ is not a big deal to me. Prior to this I used my EMX5000-12 mixer with a pair of SV115's. I liked to run the mains in stereo, and the monitors thru aux 1 & 2, for two separate monitor mixes, a very nice way to go if you want mainly vocals in one mix. It does require another amp, but you can use any variety of decent amps for monitors, and it only adds a few minutes to setup. Keep in mind that when you run mains and monitors together, you dedicate one internal amp to each, so you give up power to the mains. Also, if you are running 8 ohm speakers, I believe you are pushing only about 350 watts per power amp. So that is another reason I like to use full on stereo for mains. Lastly, when I have run mains and monitors out of the mixer (one EQ), it has not really been that big of a deal. If you are thinking you need EQ on the monitors to suppress feedback, then you may want to re-examine your mic handling and monitor placement, because you should not be grappling with feedback if set up properly. All and all, this is a beautiful unit, if it is a little pricey.

Yamaha emx5016cf mixer

This unit has all the features, but there are two things that need to be addressed. 1) no eq for the aux channels (monitors) 2)a) the mic inputs are vertically oriented which will allow dust and grime to enter the jacks 2)b) this vertical orientation places the mic cables with a 180 degree small radius bend which will cause premature cable failure. I always cover the unit when not in use, and will design a simple aluminum cable guide that will give the mic cables strain relief. Powered monitors with an external eq seems to be the only solution to the non-eq aux channels, but then the dual amp feature is rendered somewhat moot. If the unit had some in/out balanced jacks so an external eq could be used on the aux channel(s) this problem would be partially solved. Being able to use one of the user programmable eq layouts on the aux channel would solve the problem completely.
