The Yamaha MSR800W powered subwoofer is the perfect companion for the MSR400 (sold separately), extending the low end and completing the musical spectrum for maximum punch and impact. The high-quality birch plywood bass-reflex cabinet houses a 15" cone woofer powered by an ultra efficient burst 800W amplifier, a configuration that can deliver the elusive 40-120Hz frequency range with precision and authority. 2 balanced XLR connectors are provided for connection to the source, and that same signal can be directly passed on to the main speakers via the XLR thru outputs. Alternatively, the main speakers can be fed by the MSR800W's dual HIGH PASS outputs-high-pass filtered at 80-100Hz, depending on the setting of the cutoff frequency control-with a steep 18dB/octave cutoff slope. The Yamaha subwoofer also features LED power and clip indicators.

I bought two of these subs just to have around for the "big jobs". But now I will not leave home without them for practically any application. The low end fill in will get you spoiled! I use them with some JBL mains and the difference you will hear is like night and day. You will be spoiled and not want to leave for a gig without these subs again. My only gripe is that I wish the outside was not the smooth plastic design. It looks nice, but getting banged around going from gig to gig, felt covering would be better.

I wrote a review when I first got these and figured now (after having experience over time with them) would be a good time to add to it. These are basically about as portable as a powered sub can be and still be effective. Putting both organ (notoriously difficult to reproduce on the very low end) and kick/bass through them...they hardly ever break a sweat. These things will put out with authority and will significantly enhance the performance and efficiency of your system. I had been using them with a pair of Yamaha MSR400's and the setup is portable, powerful and sounds really good. Quality seems really good as well...never a hint of trouble in the entire system and you can fill a good-sized room with quality sound. The finish on these subs is also noteworthy...attractive and durable. They may not be the least expensive powered subs out there, but they sure aren't the most expensive either...and in the case of the MSR800W, it's money well-spent.
