Power to go!
Yamaha's STAGEPAS 500 is for situations in which a little extra power and channel capacity is needed. It is an incredibly lightweight, portable, easy-to-use PA system consisting of a pair of high-performance speakers with a built-in powered mixer. You can be set up and playing in a matter of minutes, and then packed away and on the road again with the same ease and speed when you're done. And all of this is provided with no compromise in sound quality or versatility, plus some advanced features you normally wouldn't expect to find in systems in this class. Getting great sound for live performance used to be a big deal.

Dual 250-Watt amplifiers
Two 250-watt power amplifiers can fill surprisingly large clubs or rooms, or project your sound over a considerable distance outdoors. The class-D power amplifier has been painstakingly designed to deliver superior sound quality as well as reliability in a remarkably compact unit.

Versatile 10-channel Mixer with Monitor and Record Outputs
If there are more members in your band than the STAGEPAS 300's 8 input channels can handle, or you simply have a lot of sources to mix, the STAGEPAS 500 gives you 10 input channels in all: four mono microphone/line inputs and three stereo line inputs. The additional stereo channel can used for either a stereo or mono source. In addition to the main speaker outputs the mixer has line outputs that can be used to connect additional powered speakers for monitoring, and to send the mixer's output to a recording device.

Phantom Power for High-performance Condenser Microphones
The STAGEPAS 500 mixer features switchable phantom power for the four mono microphone/line inputs. This lets you use high-performance phantom-powered condenser microphones in situations where you want the extended, natural response they provide.

Built-in Channel Compression/Limiting, 2-band Channel EQ and SPX Digital Reverb
Channels 1 and 2 feature LIMIT/COMP switches that let you apply either limiting or compression to those channels. Limiting can be useful to prevent input overload and distortion with sources that have a wide dynamic range, while compression can add punch to vocals, bass, guitar, and other sources while smoothing out the sound and helping it to "ride" better in the mix. Like the STAGEPAS 300 mixer, the STAGEPAS 500 mixer has 2-band EQ controls on each channel, as well as REVERB switches on channels 1 through 4. A separate REVERB level control adjusts the reverb mix.

High-performance 10" 2-way Passive Speakers
STAGEPAS 500 speakers have 10" woofers and 1" high-frequency units. Both types deliver clean, high-quality sound. The speakers can be stand mounted without standard speaker stand adapters (Tripod pole diameter is 35 mm).

Yeah this PA System is all that and then some. There is no way you wont love this system. The mixer fits to the back of the speaker for easy storage. Storage in the other speaker. It cracks some serious sound out and is also great for when we practice as well. Phantom power. And like I said before with eveything fitting into the back of the spekaers you only have to carry them out and they have handles on the back. Good deal.

A Thumpin' Little PA System
Posted by DJ Mean Al from United Kingdom on Dec 23, 2008
Experience w/product: I own it
Reviewer's Background: Karaoke Jockey (KJ) and Hobbyist

I've owned the Yamaha STAGEPAS 500 PA System for while now, and deliberated for ages between this one and it's smaller sibling, the STAGEPAS 300. I use the system for a small amateur / semi-professional Karaoke setup, in a large shared house. I connect a pair of SHURE SM58 radio mics, a pair of cheaper radio mics, and a laptop PC for backing vocals.

The system sounds warm and clear, and the vocals cut through nicely. On its debut performance, I was surprised how much of the 200W RMS per channel I actually ended up using by the end of the night - I was just touching the red part of the level meter during the final few songs.

But boy, does it sound good! The 10" drivers are THUMPIN'!! They push great bass, and the sound is bright and clean, without sounding harsh. The speaker cabinets are solidy built and - unlike STAGEPAS 300 - have pole-mounts built in, meaning that additional adapters are not necessary. This was an important consideration for me.

The mixer is also a great little unit. It locks up neatly into the back of one of the speakers, and weighs no more than 5kg. Considering that it also houses an amplifier capable of producing in excess of 200W per channel, this is quite remarkable. There are four mono mic / line channels, plus a further three stereo channels, which is plenty for karaoke purposes. The basic 2-band EQ is just about enough, although I would have preferred to be able to control mids as well as highs and lows. More importantly, the on-board effects are limited - I would have liked to have seen more presets. The mixer has a simple 24-bit reverb, but that's it. Variable delay would be useful also.

Ultimately, for a one-box system that includes a sensible mixer, stereo power amplifier and a pair of good speakers, you'll struggle to do better than this. In the UK, the system costs 550 GBP, and, in my mind was worth every penny.

My next task is to buy an electro-acoustic guitar, and try it with instruments, which is, after all, what Yamaha intended! Nevertheless, it makes a very capable Karaoke system for small and medium-sized venues.

When I plugged this little puppy up, I wasn't expecting much, since most of the marketing these days is hype. But I put some faith in all of the positive reviews and ordered, having never heard it.

I have a fairly extensive home 'audiophile-type' background as I own a company that does custom installs. But more and more, I'm being asked to do small pro-sound work and I am pretty critical about the quality of the sound.

I was basically looking for a better sounding portable 'sound-on-a-stick' system than the Behringer powered mixers with Community 15" 2-way's I typically use, that I could rent to customers that was simple, but sounded very good.

Mission accomplished. This little system sounds fantastic. My wife (also a fairly critical listener as a speech language pathologist) usually doesn't comment on the stuff I bring home to try. But during a dual acoustic guitar set up, she commented on how good it sounded. It needs a sub for low-freq extension (possible thru monitor out), but for the money, this system sounds better than anything I've been able to put together so far. Very intelligible for speech.

For simple idiot-proof sound reinforcement where 1) it is a small-to-medium sized venues, 2) you have modest SPL requirements, 3) no sub reinforcement is required, 4) you need maximum portability, and 5) you don't have a million dollars, look no further.

Great job Yamaha.

Best compact PA I ever played on.

I bought the StagePass 500 about 6 or 7 months ago. And I love this little PA system. I play Island style music. Mainly an acoustic/electric ukulele and I have never heard a small compact PA system with the quality of sound that this one has. I play in small coffee shops and restaraunts and I even host an open mic using this system. Everyone that plugs into it is so impressed with the sound of it. I highly recommend this system.
